Superman Fan & Collectors Convention of Hawaii

Where were you born and raised?

Michael Daingerfield: Toronto, Ontario, Canada

Do you remember your first acting job?

MD: Yes, my first acting job was on a commercial where I provided only my hand, and I was juggling these balls... it seemed like an accomplishment at the time... it's funny to look back at now... my first voice job was getting the lead role as ACE VENTURA on the animated series... ACE VENTURA: PET DETECTIVE.

What happened when you were approached to play the part of Superman in Krypto: The Superdog?

MD: I received notice to audition for the part of Superman as well as other characters on the show, including Krypto... I went in and auditioned for both and got the call that I was going to do the role of Superman...

Which episodes of Krypto did you work on and did you have a favorite?

MD: As Superman, I only worked on the first episode unfortunately, it was fun to do it, but the show became more about Krypto and the family that looked after him.

You've done characters in many animated shows including a very memorable voice of Ace Ventura which received an Emmy nomination. Was there any voice coaching involved or inspiration for your role as Superman?

MD: No there was no voice coaching for this job, I was really just using my own natural speaking voice, with a little heroism thrown in. It was a nice change to do that. Typically I do a lot of wacky voices for animation and this was not like that at all.

So far we haven't seen much of Superman in the Krypto series. Have you been approached to do more?

MD: No I haven't been approached to do more, I know that they were pleased with my version of Superman, and if they ever did a Superman series, I may get a chance to voice Superman for that series.

In 2003 you had a role in the Smallville episode "Shattered" and in 2004 you acted in the movie "Catwoman". Now, with three DC Comics related productions under your belt, would you consider yourself a DC fan?

MD: Absolutely, I am a huge fan of DC. One of my good friends Jay Chuppe, an artist, has always been a huge fan too, he's the first one to tell me about the DC projects that are upcoming. You all should check out his website www.chuppeart.com he does all kinds of t-shirt designs and also works doing comedy layouts for Cracked magazine. He and I have been friends since University in Kentucky...Murray State University...

If given the opportunity to play any other superhero of your choice, who would it be?

MD: I think I would like to play BATMAN, with the new resurgence of the BATMAN franchise, I am so impressed with what they are doing, it would be great to voice that character.

You have now become part of a long Superman legacy. How has this affected your life?

MD: I am really just proud to be a part of such a long legacy. As an actor you play many parts, some more important to yourself than others. This is one of those roles I have definitely included in that category.

What current projects are you involved in now?

MD: I am currently voicing a character named CHANG in a new series called PUCCA, which is a Korean sensation... it is a pre-lay series, and I believe that Disney is buying it for distribution in the US. It is a really well written series, very comedic and fun to work on. Look for it in late 2006 early 2007. It has karate theme and a whole lot of crazy characters... I am also in the upcoming thriller "Messengers" by the hot new directors the PANG brothers... the films stars Dylan McDermott.

Thank you Mr. Daingerfield for taking time to chat with us.

MD: You're welcome... and I have to say that I'm proud of our Canadian athletes this Olympics, we got a total of 24 medals, Canada's biggest count ever, only one behind the USA. And the Olympics are coming to Vancouver next in 2010. Look out!!!!!
